In 1976, the UCLA Alumni Association founded ASC as a support group for students who had received Alumni Association scholarships. ASC originally focused purely on social events such as dances, parties and bowling.
In the mid-1980s, ASC began to focus more on service, and also initiated student recruitment programs. ASC members became more involved as volunteers at Alumni Association events. At this point, however, the club was still considered a group of student volunteers, not program developers.
Today, ASC coordinates a variety of student and alumni programs in conjunction with the Alumni Association. The club's executive board develops and implements projects with support from more than 200 active ASC volunteers. Club meetings are held once a quarter, and committees hold weekly meetings to help plan and implement programs and service opportunities for the rest of the club.
ASC takes pride in serving the Alumni Association and UCLA community, while working to create a sense of community among Alumni Scholars.
This year the Alumni Scholars Club started a fund to help support their mission. Each year student projects are put on hold due to lack of funding. Thanks to a donation by a long time scholarship volunteer, our scholars have been inspired to help secure their future. With a goal of endowing their fund we need your support. For the first time, you have the opportunity to not only support student scholarships, you can actually give students the opportunity to develop as leaders on the UCLA campus and impact their community before they even graduate.
